I love rhubarb. I love the flavour, the colour, and the nostalgia of it. I remember picking it out by the field at my aunt and uncles farm. I love how people use it to line the back alley in our neighbourhood, often accompanied by raspberries.
After apples, rhubarb is the next highest donation request we receive. It grows in abundance on the prairies!
I grew up with a huge network of Ukrainian family and friends, as is very common in rural central Alberta. My ultimate rhubarb memory is taking fresh stalks and dipping it in sugar for a delicious treat: Ukrainian candy!
To celebrate this iconic prairie plant we are having Rhubarb Week! We will be posting recipes and ideas to use rhubarb all week on our blog and social media. You can find a listing of all those resources on our Rhubarb Week page.
Rhubarb Donation Drop Off 2021
But at this point in the summer, we often hear that people have hit their rhubarb limit. If that is the case for you, we are hosting a donation drop off on June 27, 2021 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm in central Edmonton. You will find all the details and registration on our Rhubarb Week page.
